Consumer interest in maintaining active lifestyles and boosting resilience has seen a growth in the popularity of collagen peptides. These supplements are no longer limited to beauty applications but are increasingly in demand as a means of supporting tissue and joint health.

There is growing evidence about the benefit of bioactive collagen peptides in helping athletes improve fat-free body mass, perform better, and recover after injuries,“ notes Oliver Wolf who is responsible for marketing health and nutrition at GELITA.

Consumers are looking for nutritional strategies that facilitate and support activity, and can complement their training. Collagen is the primary protein in the body – we believe that nutrition should deliver the key components for a healthy body collagen pool.

GELITA is a Gold Sponsor of the Vitafoods Europe Conference under Sports Nutrition and Active Lifestyle theme, and will be presenting some key findings at the event. Dr Ulrike Braun, scientific affairs and communication at GELITA, will be delivering a presentation entitled Sports nutrition: How collagen can make a real difference.

Focus on science and innovation

GELITA is a leading supplier of collagen peptides, with a key focus on science and innovation. The company was the first developing bioactive collagen peptides, with clinical studies dating back to the 1990s. “We actually created the term collagen peptides long before they became popular in the industry,“ says Wolf.

Today, the company has a comprehensive product portfolio of specific Bioactive Collagen Peptides (BCP). “Our BCP individually target – and are approved for – specific areas and issues in the human body, as opposed to the one-fits-all-approach of other collagens,“ says Wolf. “Their specific stimulatory effect on individual cell types make them really unique.

Each of GELITA’s BCPs is developed and scientifically approved for specific application areas. In sports nutrition for example, one latest innovation is PeptENDURE. This collagen ingredient has been developed for improved endurance over a long period, rather than simply delivering a short-term push like power gels or energy drinks.

Other solutions within our BCP portfolio include TENDOFORTE for strong and elastic ligaments and tendons, BODYBALANCE for improving lean body mass FORTIGEL for joint cartilage recovery, FORTIBONE for improved bone mineral density and VERISOL for beauty from within – skin, hair, and nails,“ says Wolf.

Breakthrough innovation in sports nutrition

At the Vitafoods Europe Conference, GELITA intends to focus on the specific relevance of collagen peptides for the sports nutrition industry backed by new scientific studies. Key results from these studies will be shared during the conference.

PeptENDURE is a real breakthrough innovation in sports nutrition,“ says Wolf. “This is an ingredient you take daily to improve your endurance over the long term. It is not a short term energy supply, but a reliable training partner in preparation for a competition. We are currently focusing on bringing this great solution to the market.

Wolf believes that from a consumer perspective, PeptENDURE is the missing piece in the picture of sports nutrition, complementing hydration, energy and mineral supply. “Each of the high performance athletes we worked with really appreciated the performance improvement through PeptENDURE,“ says Wolf.

GELITA aims to demonstrate at Vitafoods Europe how it can provide manufacturers with ingredient solutions, targeted to specific consumer needs. “We are at the forefront with regard to BCP in the sports nutrition area, and have developed highly sophisticated solutions for individual needs,“ says Wolf. “Science is in our DNA.
