Consumers in Asia and elsewhere are constantly on the lookout for innovative products that deliver health benefits and enhance wellness. Meanwhile, these markets have been flooded with many collagen products, creating challenges for brand owners seeking optimal collagen ingredients for their formulations.

In addition, understanding the specific benefits that each brings - as well as differences in quality between collagen peptides - has not always been easy for the brand owners. Wellnex Dipeptide can help manufacturers and consumers meet this demand for natural, high quality, and effective products based on evidence across a number of market segments.

What is Wellnex Dipeptide?

Wellnex Dipeptide is a specialised collagen peptide ingredient, containing high levels of functional dipeptides, Prolyl-Hydroxyproline (PO) and Hydroxyprolyl-Glycine (OG), with clinically established safety and efficacy. These dipeptides are readily transferred into blood through intestinal tract, in part because the ingredient is made up of the smallest units of collagen peptide. In comparison with standard collagen peptide ingredients, Wellnex Dipeptide contains more than 30 times concentrated levels of PO and OG.

Using a proprietary technique, the key components - PO & OG - are extracted from high molecular weight collagen protein during the production process. Wellnex Dipeptide is currently the only collagen ingredient available with concentrated levels of bioactive dipeptides PO & OG when compared to a standard collagen peptide.

What consumer benefits does Wellnex Dipeptide deliver?

Nitta Gelatin developed Wellnex Dipeptide to specifically help manufacturers meet growing demand for quality collagen products, and help manufacturers to clearly communicate the benefits that collagen peptides deliver. The company has over 100 years of experience in bringing highly functional products supported by clinical evidence to market.

Wellnex Dipeptide offers functional benefits in skin health, especially for moisturising and elasticity improvement at low dosages (2.5g / day) within four weeks,” notes Yuya Hirose, sales specialist at Nitta Gelatin. “It also delivers functionalities in terms of prevention of melanin synthesis, which is related to skin spots. This was demonstrated by in vitro tests.

The product has been shown to help support joint health at the same low dosages as for skin health applications. In addition, Wellnex Dipeptide been attracting attention as an ingredient to improve pressure ulcers. Nitta Gelatin see the product as playing an important role in improving the quality and functionality of nursing care food.

A number of finished products using Wellnex Dipeptide have already hit the market, most notably in Asian countries including Japan, as well as the US. Of all delivery formats, collagen-based sachets and ready to drink beverages are proving especially popular.

In Japan, some wellness products containing Wellnex Dipeptide are able to offer Foods with Functional Claims,” says Hirose. “First, that it ‘retains skin moisture’, and secondly that it ‘retains skin elasticity’. These skincare products are especially interesting for consumers who expect efficacy based on clinical studies.

The Nitta Gelatin team see demand for collagen peptides continuing to expand well into the future. “While the main benefits are currently seen as things like skin health and joint health, collagen peptides can also be a powerful tools in segments such as sport nutrition, improved cognitive function, and the prevention of the metabolic domino effect,” adds Hirose.
