Understanding the critical role of manufacturing partners, from regulatory expertise and formulation guidance to sourcing and application insights, will help CPG brands make the best choice for a long-term partnership. In this panel discussion, three industry experts provide insights on the key considerations that brands must address when selecting a partner; the need for ongoing quality assessments including the use of audits; common mistakes that brands make in their partnerships with manufacturing partners; and the impact of COVID, supply chain challenges and the increased demand for transparency.

Luca Bucchini Managing Director, Hylobates Consulting
Luca Bucchini is a food risk scientist, and an expert in food and food supplement regulation. After public health and food risk assessment studies at Johns Hopkins, in the US, he co-founded the Rome-based food consultancy Hylobates – 17 years ago. He and his team have helped register thousands of food supplements across Europe, and supported businesses comply with EU law. He has worked with the sports nutrition and food supplement industry for years, with its intriguing scientific and regulatory challenges. In the food and food supplement sector, Luca routinely helps companies manage crisis situations and recalls. Luca is a vice-chair of ESSNA, the European Sports and Specialist Nutrition Alliances, and a director of EuroFIR., the non-profit food and food supplement composition organisation.
Dr Volker Schehlmann, PhD General Manager, analyze & realize GmbH
Volker Schehlmann, PhD, is a senior executive in the life science industries, with extensive experience in consumer health, medical devices, OTC, Rx, functional foods and FMCG. Dr Schehlmann has experience in strategy development and implementation, and expertise across the B2B market, with senior roles at BASF, DSM, InQpharm, and Aenova before joining analyze & realize. He holds a doctorate in organic chemistry, with postdoctoral research at King’s College London.

Kurt Schneider has over 30 years of global experience in product/process engineering, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and R&D. As a consultant, Kurt helps small and start-up companies get their products from benchtop prototypes to finished, ready-for-sale products. He helps these businesses in the areas of product development, quality/regulatory, scale-up, tech-transfer and manufacturing. Kurt focuses on the intersection of the brand owner and contract manufacturing communities.
