Gelymar doubles its carrageenan production capacity

Gelymar S.A, the third largest carrageenan producer globally, completed its capacity expansion program initiated 24 months ago with a $15M investment. Its production capacity is now doubled at approximately 10,000 metric tons of product. The expansion is part of the company’s strategy to meet the growing demand of their renewable carrageenan line. Doubling the production capacity positions Gelymar as one of the top three carrageenan producers globally.

OptiBiotix Health strengthens position in the EU market through agreement with Nutrlinea

UK-based life sciences company, OptiBiotix Health, has signed an agreement with Nutrilinea (Italian-based contract manufacturer) granting it a 12-month exclusive distribution of its probiotic strain ingredient to the European market, but excluding the UK market. The strain, Lactobacillus plantarum, targets cholesterol reduction and heart health. The agreement comes from a commercial strategy to accelerate OptiBiotix’s product to the greater EU market. Sabinsa receives three more GMP compliance certificates

Three additional Sabinsa manufacturing sites have been audited by the United States Pharmacopeia and have received GMP compliance certificates. The USP GMP certificate recognises that the facilities operate GMP quality systems, which meet the requirements set forth in Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food, as well as USP-NF general chapter Manufacturing Practices for Dietary Supplements for Dietary Ingredient Manufacturing. EC lowers vitamin D and erucic acid for infants

The European Commission has revised its regulation of vitamin D and erucic acid requirements for infants and formula, based on EFSA’s advice that infants are at risk of exceeding vitamin D limits through current limits. The maximum amount has been lowered to now stand at 0.6 micrograms per 100 kilojoules or – 2.5 micrograms per 100 calories. Excessive vitamin D causes nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, muscle ache and can lead to kidney damage. Read more at EUR-Lex

Is beauty from within next for India?

New research by Mintel predicts that India’s beauty from within market could boom in coming years. 28% of consumers said they take supplements to maintain their hair, skin and nails, while 41% cite bone and joint health and 53% cite energy levels. 24% of Indian consumers want supplements formulated using natural ingredients. Senior beauty and personal care analyst for the India market, Rimpie Panjwani, says Indian consumers are inclined toward natural products because of familiarity and trust in ingredients such as giner, turmeric, ashwagandha and kesar. Interestingly, while the global market innovates to provide new delivery formats, 62% of Indian consumers said they prefer tablet format. Read more at Mintel.
