Good health begins in the gut, and given that 70 percent of the cells that make up the immune system are housed in the gut wall, consumers increasingly recognise the importance of supporting gastrointestinal health. Having a healthy microbiome is integral to immunity, heart health, cognition, mood, and other aspects of well-being. However, diet, medications and health challenges can adversely affect the gut, leading shoppers to seek products that can return them to homeostasis.

The digestive health space is rich in opportunities for brand holders and product developers to deliver innovative, effective products that support consumers’ health goals. Along with being proactive about digestive health, shoppers are savvy label readers and are looking for products with research-supported ingredients including probiotics, prebiotics, and more. Get the latest on the growth potential for this exciting category.
