Lycored patents its tomato extract product

Lycored has been granted a US patent for its omega-3 compositions. This new patent is a composition comprising of omega-3 fatty acid with a tomato extract lycopene, and optionally with carnosic acid and/or lutein. According to Lycored’s head of science and nutrition,  the patent reflects the company’s commitment to building its brain health program.

Infant formula products likely behind Salmonella outbreak

According to EFSA, infant formula products may the cause behind a recent outbreak of Salmonella Poona. 32 cases in infants and young children has recently been identified in France (30), Belgium (one) and Luxembourg (one). All 32 patients were infected with the same bacterial strain, and information gathered indicated that all had consumed one of three infant formula products based on rice proteins (A, B or C) from the same brand. The suspected products were manufactured between August and October 2018 by the Spanish processing company B and marketed by the French company A. The products were distributed to French wholesaler and retailers who sold them to several EU, EFTA and other countries.

Andean plant has big health benefits

An Ecuadorian study has identified an Andean plant as a source of antioxidant bioactives that have potential human health benefits. In a pilot study published in Natural Product Research, scientists investigated the plant’s good source of polyphenols, carotenes and vitamin C. The plant will be further explored for its potential to prevent oxidative damage.
